Naazir Person

Naazir Person is a native New Yorker musician and teacher who began playing trumpet at the age of eleven. Encouraged by his junior high school music teacher William Booth, and influenced by Miles Davis, Naazir continued studying and playing trumpet throughout his public school years. After high school he decided to make music his career and enrolled in Bethune Cookman College where he received a B.A. Degree in music. Presently, Naazir holds a Masters Degree in Education and teaches instrumental music periodically in the New York City public school system.

With a style uniquely his own Naazir has carved a niche for himself within the New York City area as a Trumpet player and extraordinary musician.

When not teaching, Naazir composes his own music and plays trumpet as a freelance musician. His compositions has been  published and can be heard on albums by Shamek Farrah. 

Naazir has also received numerous awards as a music educator. These are all reflections of his continued involvement in the New York City Jazz Community in the development of curriculum for students in the New York City Public School System.

Naazir is V.P. in charge of Music and Entertainment for "Expressions of a Heritage" production company.  He also leads his own quartet and has co-lead a quintet with Saxophonist, Shamek Farrah for many years. Naazir was a member of the "Jazz Recoverers,  the Creative Art Ensemble and is currently working with" Imo and One Africa" a Nigerian Afro-Beat ensemble residing in the United States.

In 1991, Naazir Person won the distinct honor of being awarded Audelcos' prestigious "Outstanding Musical Director Award" for his work in the Audelco award winning theatrical production of  Samuel Harps, "Don't Explain". Naazir also was the music director for the first production of Samuel Harps "Easy Livin", which was performed in 1991 at the "Theater for the New City" on the lower eastside of  Manhattan.
